STAGE:Mercedes-Benz G classLike the Tundra on which it’s based, Toyota’s three-row, body-on-frame large SUV is long in the tooth and in desperate need of an overhaul, which will arrive in 2022, when it is to be redesigned onto the F1 platform.
STAGE:Toyota SequoiaThe coupe and its convertible counterpart will be the first all-electric models from the brand when they debut in 2022.
STAGE:Maserati GranTurismoFord has canceled plans to build the next-generation Edge midsize crossover, meaning the nameplate will die at the end of its life cycle in 2023. When reports surfaced this year about the cancellation, the automaker’s response was telling: “We have no plans to exit the segment,” Ford said. Still, there’s a slim chance the fate of the Edge could change following contract negotiations with the Canadian labor union Unifor.
STAGE:Ford EdgeComing off a major midcycle freshening this year, Audi's three-row crossover won't be due for a redesign until 2024, given the brand's traditional product cycles.
STAGE:Audi Q7Before arriving in the first half of 2021, the large sedan will undergo a freshening that includes styling updates, powertrain refinements and a new standard 12.3-inch touch screen.
STAGE:Lexus LSThe Encore subcompact crossover was freshened four years ago and likely will get another update in 2023 before a redesign in 2025.
STAGE:Buick EncoreProduction of the redesigned 2020 midengine Corvette got off to a rocky start, interrupted by the 40-day UAW strike last fall and a two-month shutdown spurred by the coronavirus pandemic this spring.
STAGE:Chevrolet CorvetteThe full-size pickup jettisoned its diesel variant and received a freshening this year. The 2020 Titan received crossover-quality safety features and technology along with a utility-grade powertrain. Under the hood, the model has a tweaked 5.6-liter V-8 engine that delivers 400 hp. Nissan gave the Titan XD more frills and horsepower and a new transmission as the company attempts to spur more demand for its largest pickup.
The long-term future of the nameplate, however, is unclear due to its inability to compete against the segment’s U.S.-badged leaders. In the first half of this year, the Titan captured just a 1.2 percent share of the full-size segment.
STAGE:Nissan TitanDespite a freshening last year, sales of the luxury compact sport sedan have been abysmal — just 780 were sold in the second quarter, down 31 percent compared with the same period a year earlier. It's unlikely Jaguar will spend any more money on the XE trying to compete with the BMW 3 Series. Future plans for the XE are reported to be in flux.
STAGE:Jaguar XERolls-Royce will join the electrification party eventually, but its first EV likely won't land until around 2025 or 2026.
STAGE:Rolls-Royce EVThe Ioniq 6 sedan will arrive in 2022.
STAGE:Ioniq 6A replacement for BMW's first battery-electric car is not planned. U.S. sales of the i3 began in 2014. The automaker sold 4,905 copies last year.
STAGE:BMW i3The coupe, based on the Volvo Concept Coupe, is clad in carbon fiber. The advanced material reduces bodyweight and improves torsional rigidity by 45 percent, the automaker said. The carbon fiber also made it possible to create crisper lines and sharper creases. The 2020 Polestar 1 uses a double electric rear axle to enable torque vectoring and is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine. The PHEV has a 93-mile electric-only range.
STAGE:Polestar Polestar 1In a redesign aimed at improving aerodynamics, the 2022 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is now 5.9 inches longer, an inch wider and 2.1 inches taller than its predecessor.
STAGE:BMW 4 seriesThe first battery-electric vehicle from a major competitor to take on Tesla arrived in 2018, and though it has been a strong seller for Jaguar in Europe, it has struggled in North America.

STAGE:Lincoln AviatorExpect the Chevrolet midsize crossover to be freshened in 2022 and redesigned in 2024.
STAGE:Chevrolet BlazerCompared with its segment peers, the Toyota full-size pickup is ancient — its current platform dates to 2007 — so in terms of the nation’s most rough-and-tumble, profit-rich segment, the Tundra has quite a bit of catching up to do.
STAGE:Toyota TundraThe lineup will get a new utility option in late 2021.
STAGE:Maserati GrecaleHow popular has Lamborghini’s first SUV been since its 2018 global introduction? In July, the automaker built its 10,000th example. For the 2021 model year, it added the Pearl Capsule edition, which pairs a yellow, orange or green exterior with a glossy black roof, rear diffuser and spoiler lip. The interior also is two-tone. A V-8 plug-in hybrid variant of the Urus is planned, but it’s unclear when the model will break cover.
STAGE:Lamborghini UrusThe swoopy-looking four-door would compete at the upper reaches of the luxury car market. Faraday claims the FF 91’s 1,050-hp electric motor can propel the car to 60 mph in less than three seconds. The driving range is claimed to be 378 miles on a charge. Fully loaded, the FF 91’s price would be around $200,000. But without financing, Faraday very likely won’t meet its goal of delivering its first vehicles a year from now.
STAGE:Faraday Future FF 91Amazon has ordered 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian.
STAGE:Rivian delivery vanThe updated 2021 Nissan Kicks, expected to arrive in February, features the brand's new double V-motion grille, an angular front bumper and a slim headlight design.

STAGE:Lexus GSProduction of the retro-styled supercar that comes in one- and two-seat configurations — the SP1 and SP2 — is ongoing. But with a run of fewer than 500 vehicles combined, production will likely be wrapping up soon.
STAGE:Ferrari MonzaThe TRX is no longer a rumor. The Ford Raptor combatant will bring more than 700 hp to the segment before the end of the year.
STAGE:Ram 1500The popular compact crossover, which was redesigned for the 2018 model year, is expected to get freshened in late 2020, which is sooner than previously expected. Expect a redesign around 2023.
STAGE:GMC TerrainThe compact eco-friendly hatch carries over in its hybrid, plug-in hybrid and EV versions for 2021.
STAGE:Hyundai IoniqAfter four years on the market, Honda's current Ridgeline is getting a fairly significant exterior freshening to give it more squared-off styling and chunkier proportions.
STAGE:Honda RidgelineRedesigned last year, the midsize sedan now sports all-wheel drive and Nissan’s newly developed variable-compression turbo four-cylinder engine, a powertrain that provides quick acceleration and improved fuel economy.
STAGE:Nissan AltimaA redesigned Z4 arrived last year, with a new lightweight platform and updated engines. A fabric roof replaced the car's retractable hardtop.
STAGE:BMW Z4Mercedes' second bestselling vehicle received a powerful addition in June.

STAGE:Audi R8The alternatively styled alternative-fuel sedan carries over for 2021 in its plug-in hybrid and lease-only fuel-cell variations. In the absence of a pure-electric Honda model in North America, the Clarity is a stand-in for more modern zero-emissions vehicles. The Clarity EV — with just 89 miles of range — was scrapped last year. Honda is working with General Motors on two full-electric vehicles.
